From January to August 2015, the global demand for primary aluminum was 37.28 million tons, an increase of 2.295 million tons compared with the same period last year.

WBMS no longer publishes producer inventory data. In August, the total inventory was reduced by 164,000 tons, which fell to 4.28 million tons at the end of August, equivalent to 29 days of demand, and the inventory at the end of 2014 was 5.02 million tons. At the end of August, the total stocks of the four major exchanges in London, Shanghai, the United States and Tokyo were 3.621 million tons, a decrease of 825,000 tons from December 2014.
From January to August 2015, global production increased by 7.2% from the same period of the previous year. China's production in the same period is estimated at 21.056 million tons, which is currently equivalent to 55% of global production. China's apparent demand has increased by 14% compared to 2014. China's net export volume in January-August was 237,000 tons, while the net export volume in 2014 was 313,000 tons. China's net exports of semi-finished products from January to August surged from 1.38 million tons in the same period last year to 2.558 million tons.
From January to August, the output of primary aluminum in the 28 countries of the European Union fell by 1.7% year-on-year, and the output of the North American Free Trade Zone decreased by 2.8%. The demand for primary aluminum in the EU 28 countries decreased by 226,000 tons compared with the same period in 2014. From January to August, global demand increased by 6.4% year-on-year.
In August 2015, the global primary aluminum production was 4,854,700 tons, and the consumption was 4,759,100 tons.
